Skin Pigmentation Laser Treatments

Discoloration of the skin – or hyperpigmentation – happens as we age, due to sun exposure and and other environment and lifestyle choices. Cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption can also contribute to skin pigmentation problems. Discoloration, sometimes called “skin spots,” can be in the form of freckle-like spots, sun damage or cancerous skin markings. Melanin overproduction is responsible for most forms of skin discoloration. Fractional lasers work on a small area of sun-damaged skin to eliminate the damaged tissue and skin cells that are culprits to the melanin overproduction and skin discoloration. This speeds up the healing process and prevents further discoloration. Depending on the severity of the discoloration and size of the affected area, Dr. Dino Madonna and Dr. Moak offer CO2 laser treatment as a non-invasive option that can help eliminate the discoloration. These laser treatments are offered during specific times by appointment in the Face 2 Face offices in The Villages®, Leesburg and Tavares.

CO2 laser skin resurfacing uses several techniques and types of lasers. While such lasers have become more available, it is strongly recommended that you consult with a trained, licensed, medical professional. If such treatment will involve skin spots on your face and neck, consulting with a Board Certified facial plastic surgeon who has experience with lasers is of the utmost importance.
